From the Pastor's Desk - January 28, 2024

Let me highlight the Feast of Saint John Bosco whom the Church celebrates on January 31 each year. This extraordinary saint is best known for his ministry to young people in Italy during the 1800’s. Jovial and compassionate, Saint John Bosco captured the hearts of countless children and worked tirelessly for their spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. I pray that the Lord will raise up many men and women in our parish who are willing to give of themselves to guide our young people in the ways of faith.

Since arriving at Saint Peter and Saint Joan of Arc, several people have asked me about my hobbies. If I have time off, I like to travel and visit pilgrimage sites. This week, I will cash in frequent flier miles and take a one-day trip to Chicago. I will spend time at a wonderful downtown parish, “Saint Peter’s in the Loop.” I will also take in some of the beauty at the Art Institute, a museum I have loved for many years.

Let me conclude by encouraging you to think about the season of Lent. Ash Wednesday is right around the corner – February 14! I invite you to begin discerning what commitments you will make during those forty days. In the next couple of weeks, make a plan for Lent and set spiritual goals. Let us not take for granted this upcoming opportunity for increased prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
