Its purpose is to lead children to a full, conscious, and active participation in the liturgy. Developmentally, children may not understand all of the language and symbols used in sacred Scripture or the Liturgy. Yet children need to experience God’s word on a level they can understand and embrace.

To accomplish this goal, adult volunteers prepare a separate Liturgy of the Word celebration for children each week. In a special room, the children hear the Sunday readings from a children’s Lectionary and participate in a discussion about what they hear God telling them each week through the Scriptures. Traditions and church seasons are explained and children have the opportunity to have their questions answered. The children then rejoin their families for Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Liturgy of the Word with Children meets on Sundays.
